One codebase, four proving grounds
Overview
TL;DR
AV@B is not four unrelated organizations. Each division tests the same software in a different setting, and what each one learns flows back into the shared stack.
The loop
Research → Race → Deploy → Applied → Reinvest
| Research | Invent better autonomy. |
|---|---|
| Race | Stress-test it under extreme conditions. |
| Deploy | Put it onto real vehicles. |
| Applied | Use the same expertise to solve industry problems. |
| Reinvest | Turn revenue and sponsorship into compute, sensors, vehicles and research. |
Where the money goes
Applied projects for startups, labs and engineering teams generate resources that fund the rest of the organization: more compute, better sensors, more vehicles and bigger projects.
The goal
Build autonomous systems at Berkeley that are state of the art, and give students a place to ship them instead of only studying them.
