Toward an autonomous service on campus
Roadmap
TL;DR
The long-term ambition of AV@B Mobility is a safe, geofenced autonomous transportation system serving the Berkeley campus, built by students.
We want Berkeley students to be able to point at something driving around and say: we built that.
Five phases
| 1. Foundation | Build the shared stack, the simulator, the first research teams and the first robots. |
|---|---|
| 2. Drive | Run the full stack on robots and on a human-scale vehicle such as an electric golf cart. |
| 3. Compete | Enter autonomous racing and robotics competitions and measure ourselves against the best university teams. |
| 4. Scale | Move to larger vehicles and take on more research and industry work. |
| 5. Berkeley mobility | Work toward a safe, approved, geofenced autonomous service for the Berkeley community. |
Safe and approved first
A service that carries people only happens with the right approvals and a geofenced area. Each phase has to prove the stack before the next, larger vehicle.
